Important information ahead of the Nationals

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Around the May bank holiday weekend, VOSA are planning a campaign to stop, inspect, and maybe prosecute drivers towing trailers on the motorway routes into Devon and Cornwall. They’ll be checking all manner of things, including trailer tyres, brakes, lights, noseweights, and overall weights. Anyone planning on going would be well advised to read this document. VOSA also have a DVD called “Fit to Tow”. It is a humorous production presented by Carol Smillie (Land Rover were a partner in its production) and you can download and watch it here.

March Newsletter

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

We’re well into March now and the trialing season has started again in earnest. I’d like to extend my thanks to everyone who entered for the first event of the year earlier this month at Briercliffe.

The event was successful, with a good turnout and great weather. A few of us had some ‘first trial of the year’ technical problems, but were able to borrow some other vehicles and finished the trial without further issue!

The beginning of the year has also seen us running a couple of social events, including the road run to Leyland Commercial Vehicles Museum and the annual club dinner. The attendance to these events has been brilliant, with no less that 43 people turning up to the club dinner! As part of the club’s continuing success we have revived the trophies again this year, and the following ones were given out on the club night:

Curtis Shield – awarded by the Editor for contributions to The Yorkie: Geoff Hirst

Goodall Caravans Trophy – awarded to Club member placed overall highest in the RTV trial at the ALRC National: Tom Benson

Harland Beever Trophy – awarded to the Club member placed iverall highest in the CCV trial at the ALRC National: Dave Walker

Milton Sunderland Award – awarded to the overall winner of the RTV league for 2009: Andy Summers

Chairman’s Award – awarded to an individual who has promoted the activities of the Club: Mick Moses for his commitment to producing The Yorkie and keeping members involved.

Our thanks go out to everyone who has contributed to making these events a success.

With regards to up and coming events, there have been a few changes to the calendar (calendar will be fully updated on this site shortly), mostly due to double bookings and losing sites. Please be aware that the schedule now reads as follows:

April 11th – Outlane (RTV Please note change of date!)

May 1st – 3rd – CrossHills (CCV Saturday @1pm, RTV Sunday @10.30am)

June 13th – Helmsley (RTV and Caravanning weekend)

July TBA – TBA (site lost)

Aug 28th – 30th – Eckington (P&D LRC Event, CCV Saturday, RTV Sunday)

Sept 18th – 19th – Helmsley (RTV and caravan weekend, includes night trial)

Oct 3rd – Briercliffe (RTV)

Nov 7th – Catflow Fold (RTV)

Please note the three day Cross Hills event at the beginning of May. Our first run of this event last year was really well received and it would be good to see a strong turnout again this year. The event works as a good test of minds and motors before the national, or just a good days trialing if you don’t fancy going all the way south this year!

Camping facilities are in place for the whole weekend, so feel free to come along and stay even if you’re not competing.

If you have any questions on these events or sites, please contact the events secretary (Tom) on 0113 3910597.

Any further changes will be displayed here, the new club website! Yes, it’s been a long time coming, but the site is now fully live and will be updated regularly so please keep checking back.

The new site will be accessible here at www.ylroc.com.

We welcome any feedback you might have on the site, details for the committee members will be accessible on the ‘Contact’ area of the site should you have any thoughts.

That’s it for now, I look forward to seeing you at the up and coming events!

Best regards

Team Vermont
