Dear all,
Hello, and welcome to our new quarterly newsletter!
After much deliberation, the committee has decided that we will continue with a newsletter every three months in order to keep everyone abreast of news and events as well as allowing for the distribution of forms and other materials (more of that later).
It’s been a busy 3 months for the club, with 3 well received events. The Outlane RTV in April attracted a number of new members and proved an interesting trial for all concerned.
The Crosshills two day event in May managed to avoid the worst of the weather across the country and benefited from two very well set courses for CCV and RTV trials, (thanks to The Cope family and Andy Summers for these). Turn out was good both for camping and trialling, and with any number of BBQ’s going and a couple of good local Pubs to visit, this has become one of the best social and family events on the club calendar.
The Helmsley weekend saw lovely weather and the strongest camping turnout we have seen for quite some time, with 20 units in attendance. The trial itself attracted no less than 18 entrants, and sufficient marshalls to run two groups. It was good to see a wide range of motors attempting the trial and competing well, the scoreboard showed 2 long wheelbases and a standard 80 in the top four results!
There have also been a number of other events in the area which have seen club attendance. The ‘Leafers at T’Pit’ at the National Coal Mining Museum attracted around 100 attendees, ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous, and a Yorkshire entered Series One was awarded a prize in the concourse d’elegance, advised by Ken Wheelwright.
The Series One Owners Club also held their national rally at Ripon race course this year, attracting another healthy turnout with one notable enthusiast having driven a n early 80 all the way from Suffolk! Jon Ackroyd provided a number of off-roading routes and around 75 motors took to the green lanes around Ripon to hold up traffic and break down at odd intervals!
Of course the national has been and gone for this year, but with it being held so far away only a few members made the decision to travel the distance in order to compete. Nevertheless, the club was represented and luckily the 2011 national is rather closer to home (though hardly on the doorstep) in Norfolk, please see the website for details
Up and coming events are also looking promising, the next club event is an RTV to be held at Lothersdale on the 4th of July. The site promises to be challenging but rather more accessible than our last event there in September! Again, details and directions can be found on the club website.
In August, our colleagues at the Peak and Dukeries LROC are holding their annual Eckington Interclub event across the bank holiday weekend. I would heartily encourage everyone to attend this event, we have traditionally had a strong club turnout and a good showing in the events, as well as a fantastic social weekend to boot. With the national being so far away this year, it’s a great opportunity to attend a full scale event within a couple of hours drive. To that end, please find a booking form enclosed for those of you who wish to go. Please note that if you wish to compete you will of course, need your membership cards on the day.
In September we’re back at Helmsley for another camping weekend and RTV which includes a night trial. For those of you who haven’t done a night trial before it’s a great experience and a unique challege, the ability to remember the course is a must, as are some reasonable headlights!
In other news, the club website continues to develop. After a long and protracted effort, we have managed to recover the www.ylroc.co.uk domain, and this should now be back in use, directing people to the same site as the .com address. We’re continuing to make progress on the site, and are always looking for people to add new content. If you have a suggestion, please contact a member of the committee and we’ll be happy to hear your thoughts.
I think that’s about all for now folks, it just remains for me to say here’s looking forward to a warm and successful summer and to wish you all happy motoring!
Best Regards,
Barney Netherwood
