Hello and happy New Year!
Welcome to the bumper newsletter of 2011/12, I hope everyone enjoyed their break over Christmas, there’s not been any snow to play in this year, but hopefully you’ve all found other activities to keep your motors employed!
Our apologies that this hasn’t reached you before now, but we’ve had a bit of a time juggling dates with venues and land owners, so we haven’t been able to set the calendar until recently!
Nevertheless here it is, containing all the materials you’ll need for 2012, including a membership renewal form, booking forms for a few of the non-competitive events in the year, plus another calendar featuring some of the images we collected over the last 12 months!
We’ve had a great year as a club, as those of you who were able to attend the AGM will have heard in more detail. We’ve seen consistently good numbers at events, both from within the club and from other clubs as we ran our first ‘open’ event at Catlow Fold this year, with other club members doubling the entries!
We’re looking to do more with other clubs in 2012, including attending more Interclub events, such as the Major’s Memorial and the war of the Roses, as well as running more of our own open events.
As you’ll see from leafing through the calendar, we’ve got a very active schedule for the coming year. We’re keen to keep the success of this year going and provide more opportunities for people to get involved, so for 2012 we’ve planned RTV trials, CCV trials and a club meal, plus a navigational scatter and much more!
We’ve seen more of you than ever coming to the social and camping events this year, so we’ve added to these in the New Year, as well as re-instating our annual holiday rally.
So, lots of reasons to be excited about this year and just as many reasons to fill in the attached renewal form and send it back to us so we can keep planning events!
I’d like to take the opportunity to remind everyone that the committee meets on the first Monday of every month at Dyneley Arms on Poole Bank (LS21 1ET) and everyone is invited to join us from 8.30pm for a beer and a chat, so if there’s something you want to see the club doing or you’ve got some ideas, come along and let us know!
Anyway, onto this year’s events as planned out in the calendar. You’ll find a number of booking forms enclosed in this pack for the non-competitive events of the year:
First is the club meal, booked for the 4th of Feb. After the success of last year, we’re keeping this at the Rawdon Conservative Club and continuing the buffet meal, although we’re taking the catering in-house. This mean that the meal will be FREE (yes, really) to club members, with non-members charged at £9 each.
The venue is limited to a capacity of 60, so bookings are being taken on a first come, first served basis! In addition, can the lucky few of you awarded trophies last year please return them to us in January, contact any member of the committee to make arrangements.
You’ll also find a form for the navigational scatter (March 4th). For those of you who haven’t done one before, a nav scatter works a bit like a treasure hunt! Your aim is accumulate as many points as possible by visiting various locations scattered over the map in the time allowed.
It’s a good bit of fun for all and finishes at the Royal Oak at Dacre Banks for a meal and a chat. With this in mind, please return the booking forms in good time as we’ll need to know total numbers in advance.
Finally, there is a form enclosed for the Holiday Rally (3-12th) August. This takes place in Machynleth in mid Wales, a location that the club has used in the past.
The area is great for green lanes and general tourist activities, plus being only half an hour’s drive to the coast.
We’re gauging interest in order to confirm the booking, so if you’d like to attend can you return your forms to us by the end of January. If we’ve got enough interest, we’ll then confirm the booking and let you know at the club meal and the next newsletter! Hopefully, this can go back to being a permanent fixture in the club calendar as of this year!
In other news, there are changes to report on the committee, following the AGM in November, and it is now made up as follows:
Chairman: Hedley Cope
Vice Chairman: Gary Docherty
Secretary: Andy Summers
Treasurer: Neil Benson
Events Officer: Tom Benson
Membership Sec: Neil Benson
Editor/Webmaster: Barney Netherwood
Equipment Officer: Harriet Summers
Chief Marshall: Sue Cope
Rally Officer: Kate Netherwood
Rights of Way Officer: Jon Ackroyd
Member without Portfolio: Andy Cope
We welcome the new committee members and thanks those who are stepping down for their time and efforts over the years that they’ve helped run the club.
Finally, as a bit of light relief, I’d like to include an email from a resident of Bishopdale, who’s stranded Ford focus was rescued from halfway down a green lane by a few of our members on new year’s day.
Hello,
I would be most obliged if you could pass on my thanks to the members of YLROC who were out and about up Bishopdale yesterday (particularly to Kate and Andy). I would imagine they were quite surprised to come across a Ford Focus descending the lane from Kidstones.
What can I say other than I’m an idiot, I should know better as I spend a lot of time on the hills in the area as I live in Bishopdale! Had it not been for the extremely helpful members of the club the situation would have undoubtedly become worse than it already was.
I’ve read that you have a fighting fund, how would I go about making a donation?
Many thanks
Serves as a reminder that the code we follow on green lanes extends no only to the land, but the other users, well equipped or otherwise! Well done to Andy Cope and Kate Netherwood for representing the club!
I think that covers everything for now, keep your eyes on the website for any updates and we’ll be back with another newsletter in March!
It just remains for me to pass on our hopes that you enjoyed Christmas, our wishes for a happy new year, and of course, happy Land Rovering!
Barney Netherwood
